Have no fear we at Herb Grinders are here to help. If you are worried about ruining your herbs in a herb grinder or not getting the most out of your grinder, we have step by step instructions on how to best use your herb grinder. We have also included a section on what are some common issues herb grinders can have and how to remedy them.
What is a Herb Grinder?
The herb grinder aims to grind your herbs down into smaller pieces. These smaller pieces make the herbs easier to use and enjoy. The main mechanism the herb grinder has is the grinding chamber. Here is where the magic happens, the grinding chamber has two sets of interlocking teeth. When the grinding chamber is spun, the two sets of teeth pass by each other and crush the plant material that gets between them, thus breaking down the herbs. There are many different designs and sizes, but all follow this basic grinding principle. Ideally after this process, you are left with herbs that are the same size making it easy to use in any application.
What Consistency Am I Looking For?
We’re all looking for the perfect grind but what does it actually look like? After your herbs are all ground, you’ll want them to be of a roughly uniform size. This will make all the pieces easier to use. The consistency can be affected by the moisture of your herb, this is important if you are looking for an evenness when using herbs. Your herb should be a little crumbly but not to the point of powdery. Taking these points into account, ultimately the consistency is up to personal preference, find which is best for you.
Grinding Step by Step
Here is the method we use when we grind our herbs.
Loading up
First, open the top lid, and you’ll see all the teeth of the grinder. Place your herbs into this chamber. Try not to overfill the chamber or you will affect the efficacy of the teeth.
Time to grind
After your chamber is filed appropraitely, place the lid back on. Then start to spin the two grinding chambers backwards and forwards. This will break down the herbs. Keep up this action until your herbs reach the texture that you prefer and works for your set up.
Collection Time
Depending on the type of grinder you have, your herbs will collect in different locations. They will either collect in the same chamber or a separate chamber beneath the teeth. From here your herbs are ready to use or can be stored in an air tight container.
Using a herb grinder can really up your game when it comes to herb preparation. Not only making the use of your herbs pain free but letting you get far more out of them.
